Stories From Driving with Uber
I have thought for many years I should write down those stories and share them with the world. So here goes, the good, the bad, the ugly, and the thought-provoking. I will share my thoughts. I will try hiding the details so you cannot recognise the person.
I have called this website “Father Confessional”, as there is something about being in the car with a stranger. There is a sense that you will probably never see this person again, so it is ok to share stories with them. But there is also a sense that people are carrying a lot of burdens and need someone to unload, too, perhaps before they get home to their families.
I have learned that most people need to talk to someone. I believe we are designed to live in a community or another way to look at it is to be a part of a tribe. A few years back, I started to do a psychology degree. I can remember when I started reading the textbook; sorry, I can’t remember which one I must have given it away. The first page discussed that 50% of people who see a psychologist do so because they need someone to listen. I thought, “I could do that”. Funny enough, I had a very high-end call girl (she says she charges $5000/night) in the car last night; she said the same thing to me. She said you would be surprised how many men pay her, not for sex but conversation.
There is another part of this. I am a person of faith. Driving around and meeting the people I meet has shown me that perhaps the church is not having as big an impact as what the church thinks they are having in the world.
It has also shown me that issues come up in the car that indicates that our government leaders are out of touch with what is happening on the ground or that one hears the unintended consequences of those government policies.
So I have decided to start writing out the stories from the past and current car rides. The stories may be my thoughts due to conversations or things I have seen driving around that make me think.
There are some incredible people in this city and visiting this city. I hear some fantastic stories and am looking forward to sharing these with you.
