The truth comes out in the car

A person with long red hair sits at the edge of a wooden dock, facing a serene lake surrounded by dense forest and mountains. The scene is tranquil, with the individual appearing to be in a moment of contemplation or relaxation, enjoying the natural beauty and calm waters. The sky is overcast, adding a peaceful and reflective mood to the setting.

What Fragrance do you give off?

For most people, when they get in the car, there is no problem with the fragrance they give off.

At other times, it can be overwhelming! Sometimes, you want to wind down the window and get some fresh air coming in.

I must admit I am very sensitive to smell at the best of times and the really bad ones are few and far between, but it has made me think about what is the type of fragrance one gives off in general. I’m not just talking about smell here.

Some people are just great to be around. They are well presented. They greet you and have a fantastic conversation with you.

Others are just grumpy. They are not well dressed. They frown, have a temper, and are angry.

I know in my teaching outside of Uber, my students who work in retail environments or in hospitality tell me that customers are just angry these days.

I know I have to be careful as I tend to react in the same way people react to me. If they are grumpy, I can be grumpy back to them.

But it is learning to smile in these situations. To seek to change the atmosphere in the car and move forward.

We live in an apartment building. It’s nice when you get in the lift and there is a nice smell left behind from someones perfume or perhaps the food that they just got delivered.

I’m also amazed that when people get in the car they say it smells nice. It’s a great compliment but I also wonder what smells are in other ubers!

What “fragrance” are you giving off? What tone are you setting as you step out into the world? What “smell” are you leaving behind?
